On July 25, 2011 my mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.  On September 3, 2011 she passed away due to complications of her first chemo treatment.  I am walking to honor my hero, my mother.  It's amazing how many people I know who've had breast cancer or are currently fitting it.

When my mom was diagnosed, I knew I had to do something.  When she passed, I knew I would participate in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk.  I feel so energized and focused.  I'm very excited.

Thank you Lori.  I'm really excited too.  I'm walking in DC.  Where are you walking?

In DC also. Where do you live?  Maybe we could get together to train some......

Lori

Lori,

I'm in Frederick, Maryland.  I would love to have someone to train with . . . that would be great.  Send me an e-mail sometime and we'll try to work something out.  My e-mail is tmbcole@aol.com and put training walk or avon walk in the subject line.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  This is my first walk, too, with my daughter and my grandson's girlfriend.  I'm so excited to do this!  Good luck to you and may God bless you.

Tina-So very sorry for your loss and I bet your Mom would be proud of what you're doing! Dottie is my Mom and I am so excited to be doing the walk with her. Last year was my first and I signed up for this year within a couple of days after last years walk. It is an amazingly powerful event from start to finish. Best wishes.

Dear Tina:

If you are down in the Germantown area some Sunday, the Seneca Sisters train in the area.  We are starting on Jan 8th, 2012 at Seneca Creek State Park.  Keep in touch if you want to train together sometime.

All the best and great that you are walking...I am sorry for your loss and know that it is painful for you.

Thank you.  I appreciate your offer.  I'll send you an e-mail so you have my information.

Thanks again.

Hi Tina:  I have also signed up for the first time for 2012 in May in DC.  My sister-in-law's partner is fighting breast cancer.  Two of my friends are survivors and my 29 year old niece is a survivor from Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.  I registered yesterday after my first training walk.  Fortunately I am on a great team.  My huge concern is fundraising.  Hope to hear from you.

Lori W.

Lori,

Registering for the Avon Walk is the first step.  People tell me that is the biggest step.  Raising $1,800 won't be a piece of cake, but you can do it.  I have found that the closer the Walk becomes, the more people are willing to donate, but it's never to early to start asking for donations.

Good luck with your training and fundraising.  Your team will support your efforts.  Stay positive.

Best wishes to you and your family.  You're doing a good thing.

So sorry about your tragic loss!

I am walking DC again this year (also 2010) and would love to join others to train/team/fundraise.
