We lost my Mother in August of 2010 to a long hard fought battle against Breast Cancer. She was first diagnosed in 2003. After months of treatment she was put in remission and we celebrated her success by participating in the 2004 Avon Walk in Washington DC. That walk was a very special memory for my Mother, one that she talked about for many years. We always talked about how we were going to raise the funds and walk the following year as we just crewed on teams that year. Well in early 2005 I found out I was pregnant with my first son and then 22 months after he was born my daughter was born. 9 months after my daughter was born, and 3 months after my Mother had had her 5 year clean mamaogram it was discovered that her cancer had spread to her lung and bones. We were all devestated, but hopful of her prognosis as the doctors felt they could keep the cancer at bay with treatment. My mother fought long and hard for over a year and a half but she just couldn't fight anymore. After she was removed from an experimental trail due to the damage the cancer had caused to her hip bone she decided she no longer wanted to fight and be sick and just enjoy the time she had left with her family. A short 4 months later she passed away and that hole has yet to be filled. She was an amazing woman and touched the lives of so many. It was a painful time but also an amazing time as my family and I listened to the stories and memories of all those she touched.

So this May my family and I are walking in her memory and celebration of her life. May 6th would have been my mothers 61st birthday and at the end of the Walk on that day we are planning on having the biggest loudest and craziest celebration we can have! If my mom preached anything it was not to be sad that she was gone but to celebrate where she was going. We know Mimi is in heaven dancing with the angels! We love and miss you Mimi!!
