My hands swell really bad as well. I try to bend at the elbows and swing the arms (almost like power walking) instead of hanging them straight. This seems to help. Kinda keeps the blood from being pushed to the hands. Hope this helps.
Good Luck
Libby
I get this all the time, even on training walks of under 3 miles. Best way I found to combat it is to occasionally raise my arms over my head. Also, I learned to remove all rings prior to walking. My fingers swell enough that my wedding band becomes painful. One thing that helped me a lot is to use walking poles. They keep my hands moving which seems to help the circulation. The poles are not allowed during the actual walk, though.
Hi Katie
I get this problem too - I found two ways to help - keeping my arms bent at my sides instead of letting them hang down - but also holding something while i am walking - a water bottle or a towel - or one of those squidgy stress balls in each hand so I can squeeze them - i find it helps keep my hands from puffing up...
hope that helps - and good luck with your training and walk!
cheers
Nicola
It's a common problem when working out...you are not alone. Use all the advice...I tend to just squeeze my hands together and that helps. I was having this issue and found that it happens cause it's the bodies way of sweating...don't know why it is, but it happens. Good luck
