I have been training diligently by following the plan set up by Avon. Lately, it's been getting harder and harder for me to mentally (and to a small extent physically) go out and walk. I haven't raised a lot of money yet and feel disheartened. It's also hard to get the willpower going to do thopse big walks on the weekends when I'd much rather relax with family. I am a few weeks ahead in terms of training and don't want to stop, but need advice on how to keep going. As it is, I might not make one of the big walks this weekend and am feeling a combination of guilt and relief about it.

Help!

Don't give up! You can do it!

Natalie,

I know how you feel, I hate getting out of bed early in the morning to walk and since I walk alone during the week it gets boring. Try having your family met you for lunch half way through your walk at a resturant or have a picnic. I even walk to the theater and see a movie. On weekends I walk with a walking club in a local park where families can fish, play and ride bikes. My walks include local fast food restaurants, stores, library and I'll walk to outdoor markets and stop at yard sales.  Also remember this is temporary, come the days of the walk you will forget the frustration. If you skip one of your long walks, enjoy it!!! It won't ruin your training,

Good luck, which city are you walking in?

I'm doing Santa Barbara and have signed up for Chicago next year

Don't give up!! You can do it! I know it is hard, espcially as you get closer to the walk itself.  What I did was 4-5 mile loops and then back at my house. I would rest for a bit, and then out again.  That helped me break it up and also not miss the entire day with my family.  It's not easy, but the training makes the walk bearable!! Good luck to you!!
Don't feel disheartened about the money, keep the faith, it is hard I am there now myself!  I am not finding much time to do the week end walks because I have EVERY Saturday for the next month booked for fundraisers.  Here is what I have told myself about having to walking all the time.......the people we are walking for have NO choice when it comes to this disease.  They don't get to take a break because they are are both "mentally and to a small exent physically" just not into it right now, but WE had the choice and made the decision to do this for THEM!!   If you don't go out and make yourself walk (even if it is not the full distance you had planned)  then the next week end there will be another excuss, then another one the next weekend.  Then before you know it you HAVE raised your donation amount but your not ready for the walk!
