Hi everyone!

I am fundraising for my second walk. I did Denver in 2007 and this June will walk in Chicago. I feel like I have been maxing out on asking friends. Nobody is responding through Facebook anymore so I don't want to be annoying. I have raised $1,125 so far.

Does anyone have any advice on raising money by tabling outside a grocery store? I am looking for tips and any stories of how much money has been raised doing this. I think it could be fun but not sure how to go about it. How many hours should I ask to sit there? (I am a solo walker, by the way)

Also, another idea I have is to pull together a Bowling for Boobs party. Again, the broad idea is there I am just overwhelmed by the idea of trying to get it together. How can I raise money creatively?

I hope to raise $2,500 this year. I started early so I could focus on training but have hit a stalling point now and hope some of you can help inspire me! Thanks in advance!

Julia (Racine, WI)

One idea that I have used for my fundraising this time around as this is also my second Avon Walk. I did one back in either 07 or 08 in Colorado and this time I am doing the one in Washington, DC. I decided to utilize facebook to hold an online auction. I created and album and uploaded pictures of all the items up for bid. I solicited businesses, restaurants, and did a raid of my own house for stuff that I had which was new that I had not used and then I put all those items in an album for businesses and restaurants I advertised their information below the photo. I then opened the bidding and left the bidding open for a week. I set an end date and time. At the end of the auction I went and responded under each photo with which person won the item and how much the bid was for. This way the bid could not be deleted and if two people were going back and forth for an item I could respond with who won the item. I then allowed the highest bidder's a certain amount of time to go to my site and pay for the item before they could pick it up. This is a great way to get donations, because poeple are actually getting something for their donation instead of just donating. I think people are more willing to donate when they are getting something for their money especially with the touch economy right now. I did one silent auction before Christmas and raised 567.00, then my sister offered to do one near where she lives and she did it the same as me and online facebook silent auction and her auction for me raised $1,228, and then I have a my second silent auction going on right now which  I am already up to 809.00 and the auction ends tomorrow at 9pm. I hope this helps.

April,

can you provide us a link to your auction?

Thanks!

There are two different albums under this page. The first auction I did is in the album called Avon Breast Cancer Silent Auction 1 (CLOSED) and the one I currently have going on now that ends tomorrow is Avon Breast Cancer Silent Auction 2

I hope this helps.

I guess the way I just posted it you should be able to click on the names of the albums and it will take you to that auction album so you can see how it was set up.

Thanks so much, I will take a look at them right now!

We tagg outside of grocery stores every year. We generally set up a table with some trinkets, pencils, pens, stickers and bracelets. We try to get there @9 and stay until @1. We do really well always $300-$400

Yeah, some of my team tagged outside of Walmart a few years ago and raised $600 in 6 hours. It's definitely worth it and all those dollars and change does add up! It helps to bring your kids to help ask for donations too....people have a difficult time refusing to give a child a donation when asked.  :)

Kim...do you sell the trinkets or just ask for donations and give trinkets as a thank you? My team Pink Rubies (still setting up the team) are thinking of doing this outside of Walmart but need help.

Thanks
