Packing The Overnight Bag...What Would You Recommend That a Manual Wouldn't Mention?

Hello fellow walkers and crew!

If there was something that past walkers could recommend packing in my overnight bag that would never be mentioned in any of the walker manuals, what would it be?

Thanks!

Ear plugs. For those that snore very loudly.
Thanks Tanya! I hope you haven't had a bad tenting experience in the past.
The gigantic Ziplock bags (the XXL or XL size). Put each day's clothing in their own bag. That way you can just grab that day's bag and get ready. A sleeping bag also fits nicely into that size bag. The bags, while sounds silly, are great if there is a hint of rain.
Thank you for the suggestion April! I'm hoping for no rain this year.

Good luck with your training!
pack a bag with all your stuff for the shower new clothes garbage bags to put the durty ones in so when your done walking you can just go to your tent and grab the littl bag inside your duffell and go to the shower
Thanks Sunny! This is a great suggestion. I appreciate your feedback!
Just a warning about ziplock bags... if you don't get *all* of the air out of them, they're as likely to pop and let air/water in as they are to keep your belongings safe and dry.

For me, though... it's not what isn't on the list, it's what *is* on the list but is overlooked by nearly every first time walker.

A notebook. I don't care if it's a couple of scraps of paper, a spiral bound reminder of high school, or a fancy digital device. There are going to be things that happen on your Walk weekend that you will want to remember, but two hours later will be driven from your mind by anything from /the next incredible thing/ to /the next insanely long hill to walk up/. Write it down, record it, take a picture, do something. You'll thank yourself later.

My personal choice, by the way, is my cell phone with the number for my blog set as a speed dial. http://webqatch.livejournal.com/bcsucks has all of my memories of all of my walks... and it's more precious than gold.
GLIDE!!!!! Put it on before and all during your walk. Reapply..Baby powder!! Extra socks. If you stay on top of your feet you won't get blisters!!! My walking partner did that I did not and I got blisters!
Oooh! Right... can't forget Glide. It works miracles!!
Thanks Susan! Can you tell me some brand names of this "Glide" or is that what it's actually called. Where does one purchase it?
i found some at sports authority. love it!!
Hi Ralph,

Thank you for the suggestions. I will be sure to squeeze the air out of my zip lock bags. I'm hoping for no rain this year, lol.

You are not the first person to tell me about bringing a notebook with me to jot down notes, so I'm thinking that sounds like a good thing to pack. I'm planning on bringing my camera too.

Thanks again! Good luck with your training!
