Raffle to raise money - iPod Touch raffle generated $750

Hello Walkers - Just wanted to let you know of a fund raising event I held this past week which was very successful.

I raffled an iPod Touch.   I posted the information on my Facebook status and through email to everyone in my addressbook.  I decided to offer 75 "tickets" at $10 each.  Anyone interested in purchasing tickets was directed to my Avon Walk page and asked to make a donation in $10 increments.  The donor could choose to donate $50 and that would give them 5 chances to win the iPod.  I kept track of the people donating during the raffle period.  Once I hit 75 tickets sold, I closed the raffle.

I was expecting it to take a couple of months to sell the 75 tickets, instead it only took a week.   You can take a look at my blog post about the raffle for information: http://amberstang.wordpress.com/2010/03/29/ipod-touch-raffle-to-ben...  The only paragraph that I removed from the post was the one directing people to the Avon Walk donation page (I don't want anyone to donate now and expect to be part of the drawing as it is finished).

I am thinking about holding another raffle in a month or two because of the popularity and success of this one.

I purchased a Coach purse from the Outlet store retail value $398.  I also got 3 donations from a local spa and a pillow from my Chiropractor.  I'll attach the flyer.

I'm also working with Fuddruckers, but don't expect big money from it as they only give 15% of sales.

Thanks!  I was also planning on doing a couple of the lunch/dinner things at Chili's but I think they only donate 10% so 15% is not so bad!
Good luck to you!  I'm doing the Houston walk as well.

Great idea Karen!  What did you offer up for the two runner up prizes?  I am very interested in doing this.  Have you ever thought of doing something like a Kindle as another option for folks and raising more money?

Cynthia

I make jewelry, so the 2nd was a necklace and 3rd prize was a bracelet.

Hi Cynthia,

I am offering a Kindle up to incent donors but it has not gone as well as I had hoped. I have only raised about $350 from giving the incentive for every $10 you get a chance to win it. I have to follow up again and see if maybe everyone is waiting until the last minute. I'm not drawing until May 28, so there is still time.

If you are interested in getting in on the Kindle raffle, my personal page is www.avonwalk.org/goto/michellenowland2011  Just send me an email to Michey14@yahoo.com after you donate too or put something in the personal message.

Our team is doing a COACH purse raffle too and so far we have raised $730, but this is a team venture and for every ticket sold, the team member who sells it has the money go into their accounts (they should get credit for what they do right?).

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Hi Michelle!

At this point, I won't do a raffle with a Kindle or IPod Touch, but certainly will next year!  In the works right is a raffle for a Coach purse that was donated by a friend (2nd one this year), a church wide Bunco in 2 weeks, and a garage sale where items are donated by my neighbors including baked goods in 4 weeks. Good luck with your Kindle raffle.  I'm hopeful that you will get a lot more donations towards to Kindle yet!!
