Just wanted to remind you to cut your toenails! This is my first walk and I was so excited to hit the pavement this past weekend in nice weather for a change. One toe was digging into another and after 4 miles I had to take my shoe off and wrap my toe with a tissue. Just a tad bloody but I did the whole 8 miles I was aiming to. I can't wait til May 1st!
Thank you so much for this info. I know my "new" shoes that I'm trying to break in are already questionable as far as the size. Now I know I need to break in a bigger pair. But shoes that are too big also will cause blisters. . . Argh what a vicious cycle!
I had blisters under my toenails last year in my SF walk. I lost all toenails with the exception of my big toes. At least the nails do not fall off until they are almost grown back. I did everything I was suppose to when it came to preparing, but it still happened. They are all back and I am ready to do it again.
Thank you so much for that. I think that would freak me out to get a blister "under" the nail. How can you tell?
I do think I may loose a nail. Half of it has turned white. I feel like I'm a real walker now!
I didn't know at first. My feet were hurting so badly. Sunday morning I looked at them and they actually looked swollen under the toe nails. I should have gone to first aid unit to have them looked at. Instead, I threw on my flip flops and headed out to complete the walk. Monday, I went to the doctor and that is how I found out.
Sounds like you will be losing a nail, It is already growing back though so it is not so bad.
I have heard it is pretty normal.
I have different shoes this year and will be walking 12 miles next weekend. That will give me an idea if these shoes will work better.
Good luck to you!
Wow...thanks! I didn't even know to worry about this, since it'll be my first time walking. Sounds scary. I'm walking 2 times a week right now and doing 4-5 miles each day, but haven't had problems with any kind of blisters.
Do you guys recommend for me to go to work the next day after the walk? I haven't yet requested the day off from work.
I took the time off, I am worried that I will have blisters, I am a nurse and work 12 hours shifts, the thought of having to walk/stand for 12 hours was more than I was prepared to deal with. I have a stock of vacation, so I will be recovering with my feet resting for a few days after. If you can get it, I'd take the day off.
