Traffic/Parking on Boston?

   I really want to walk this year, I live in NH and will be walking in Boston...I have yet to sign up because I am nervous about driving in Boston and where can we park for the weekend?  Where do all you Boston walkers park?   Also, when I do sign up will be looking for a local walker or team to join!  Walking in memory of my Mom who passed away in October from Breast Cancer...

Hi Kimberly!!  WELCOME to the Boston Walk!!!  What a beautiful way to honor your mom - you will feel so much love and support - there are so many honoring those who have passed away....it is a beautiful tribute! 

I am a 2 time breast cancer survivor....and this year, my best friend and I will be walking in Boston - this is our TENTH YEAR participating!!  It is also the 10th year of my survivorship from my first diagnosis! 

We are from Western Mass - and the Boston folks all make it SO easy to find where you need to be - there is PLENTY of parking...it's honestly not a problem.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised....and the experience you get will all be worth it!! 

You will be notified of the hotel that is the 'event eve' hotel in the city - there's plenty of parking either at that hotel or in the immediate area. The last few years, we stay off-site at a local hotel and drive to Umass Boston the morning of the walk.  There is a TON of parking there! 

I really think you should go for it - hope to see you there!!

I have been looking into staying off site but finding that there is college graduations that weekend and hotels have no rooms available.  Any idea's?  I fly from Michigan and stayed at the host hotel last year, rented a car, paid for parking and it all was busy and looking for a better way this year.  I didn't need a car until after the walk on Sunday, so it was a waste. any suggestions.

I live in Michigan and went to Boston 2011 to walk the walk solo, I won't say alone because I was NEVER alone!  I had all kinds fears of flying in, expenses, car rental and getting from one place to the other.  It was all ok, some things I will do differently this year.  I am returning though!  I can't wait.  It is a awesome way to honor your mom!  Sorry for your loss.  Use all your resources to guide you - it will all work out.  If you are looking for a room mate at the host hotel on Friday let me know, I stayed on my own last year but want to be more cautious with expenses (more to donate to walk).  Feel free to email me at Creativerobin@comcast.net

Hi Kimberly!

 

This will be my second year walking (my first time was 2010). I live in Southern NH so what I did was took the commuter rail from Newburyport to Boston and stayed in a hotel in Boston the night before the walk - SO much more convenient than trying to drive into Boston and/or find parking, plus I didn't have to get up at the "butt crack of dawn" to get to the walk start. I didn't stay in the host hotel, and was super glad I didn't - apparently they had a prom there and so there was dancing and loud music until the wee hours.

 

Where in NH are you? I'm looking for training buddies - I'm up to about 5 miles so far. I'm in the Seacoast area and have been using the rail trails in Epping/Fremont mostly, but I also follow six mile "volkswalk" routes, too, which is a GREAT training tool (www.ava.org to find local routes).

What hotel because I haven't had luck, there are three college graduations in the area that weekend and I have been told there aren't any rooms available.  Coming from Michigan I don't know the towns and where is close enough to still get a shuttle into walk.  Any suggestions would be great also....what are the commuter rails and how do I find out where they go???  Thanks,

I also will be driving from Conway nh.I live near there.My dad is in Salem Ma.Hoping to sleep there night before then have him drop me off. If you would like to join me for ride we can carpool

Kimberly, so sorry about your mom but I'm happy that you will be walking in her memory and raising money to help slay The Beast. As you've seen already, you will find plenty of people to walk with and you'll never find yourself alone.

Question for the Boston Alumni: can you give me a good idea of the route? Does it change much year to year? I'm a NY walker who is thinking of coming up and doing some cheering along the route and maybe playing some music to keep you all walking. The route map on the Avon site is very vague, so any specifics would be appreciated. Thanks!
