Does anyone have any tips on getting through the 26 miles...besides training. I have been training and am loving it. I am in my 50's and have never done anything like this before...I would like to be prepared for what may happen and how I may feel. I am walking for 325 Senior Citizens of which many are cancer survivors...they are cheering me on and I have had them all sign my t-shirt.
Welcome to the over 50 or as I insist on referring to it as the new 30! Training is the number one thing you can do. But the best way to prepare is
- plan on doing 20 miles in one day 3 weeks before the walk. Have all that you plan to walk with on you when you do it. Plan the route and include a fair number of hills.
- while training break in two pairs of shoes. Day two will be a lot easier when you have different shoes to wear as each pair breaks in differently and there for you are not on the same hot spot.
- Hydrate
- If you feel good, keep walking. To many get hung up with all of the pit stops, a steady pace really pays off as resting to much is like starting over and over again.
