Hi everyone! I'm Leslie Anne and this is my first year walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I'm sooo excited! I love training and fundraising but so far i've only done it on my own. I'm looking for a group to join. I live in Concord, CA but I work in Berkeley... so i'm all over the bay area. Since this is my first walk, I don't know anyone else doing this and i'd really like people to walk with on the BIG weekend. Is there any groups out there that is looking for another member? I have all weekends off so my schedule shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Leslie,

My daughter and I are going to walk for the first time also, we live in Antioch. I work every other weekend, and this month is bad with her schedule. We are planning on going to the training walks in Walnut Creek this weekend, and hopefully the others on my weekend off. I have done events with Team in Training, so I know with training we can all complete this. I would defititly do the trainig walks in WC, it will be a great way to meet other walkers.

that's a great idea! Do you know where the walk is this weekend? I don't live too far from Walnut Creek so I should see you there!
Hi Leslie,

I'm in Antioch too. I tried to also leave a message for Susan too. (not sure it it went through). Anyhoo... I'm looking for local folks to walk train with on weekends. Last year I did my training at Contra Loma in Antioch. It totally prepared me for the walk.

I would love for you guys to join our team too. We are the CoCo County Walkers. I am planning some team fundraising activities to help everyone meet thier fundraising goals. If you want to hear more about the whole team thing to decide, we can talk about what it all means.
most importantly, Let me know if you are
interested in walking contra loma with me.

Hi Toni! Thanks for getting back to me. Antioch's not too far for me. Without traffic on HWY 4 it's nothing! I don't know where exactly Contra Loma is. What exit is it located off of? What days and for how long do you train for?

I would love to talk to you about joining your team. Since this is my first year doing the Avon walk, I would like to have people to share this experience and fundraise with. I'm having trouble with my fundraising alone as well. Next weekend will be my first fundraising garage sale, so hopefully that will help with reaching my goal. I'm really excited for the event but I don't know anyone else walking so i'm a little concerned about raising enough funds to walk, I'm thinking a team would be so fun to fundraise with!

Also, I have 2 small dogs that train with me on the weekends. I'm not sure if Contra Loma is dog friendly... but I don't mind too much if it isn't. There's a great park called Point Pinole that's dog friendly and I mainly walk them there. That's located off of Richmond Parkway.

My number is (925) 890-3390 if you're interested in teaining sometime together!
I sent you an e-mail :-) I will call you later this weekend to talk over the team stuff and training meetups!

I mentioned in my E-mail that Contra Loma is dog friendly. Bring the pups! I have three little ones as well and I can bring them (though the littlest will end up being carried most of the way!) I actually start at the Antioch Community park on James Donlon because it's free to park there (Otherwise we'd be paying to park at Contra Loma) and it butts right up to Contra Loma. We measured it with pedometers last year, and one time around the reservoir is about 2.5 miles. At first we would just do laps then as we got better we add mileage by taking trails and walking through the park as well.

I like to do those extended walks on Weekends, early in the mornings (like 7am) so that when were doing the longer distances, were done by 11 or 12 and still have the rest of the day. Also, as the weather improves, it is better to get it done before it gets too hot.

There is a dog park close by as well, so another thing I did often last year was take my dogs there and do laps around the little dog corral while my dogs played. Funny thing... they didn't play... they followed me around and around... so that's another idea if we feel like starting off on flat terrain to start with.

Lots of fun options! Talk to you soon!
Hi Toni! Sorry I missed your call! I'm at work and right after work i'm going to the Warriors game. I can call you during lunch tomorrow because i'm sure a midnight phone call wouldn't be too fun for both of us haha. I'm still looking forward to talking all about your team and getting some fundraising tips from you and your crew! I hope we all can train together soon. I get off at 5:30pm mon-fri, so it's hard for me to do a long training walk through the week but weekends i'm all for it! Hope to talk to you tomorrow!

Have a good one!
Leslie Anne
You were awesome Girlie! I am so honored to have met you and thrilled that you joined our team! Your Grandma must be so proud of you!
