Breast cancer still sucks - even after seven years

[This was originally a post to my blog, but I decided it should appear here, too]We still live in a world where friends and family hear words like "summation artifact" and "abnormal mass" and the immortal "I'm sorry to tell you this." We still live in a world with breast cancer and I find this unacceptable. I find it unacceptable that each month, my friends and loved ones perform their monthly exams knowing that they could find something…See More

Profile Information

Who I am and what this is to me.

2010 will mark my sixth year of involvement with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in DC. When I first started, it was just something to do to help out some friends who had created a loose affiliation of folks who wanted to help. That group held a couple of fundraisers for various causes (including breast cancer) throughout the year.

Since that time, I have gotten sick once (and was unable to walk), walked three times, and crewed twice. I have raised over $30K. I have gotten both my girlfriend and my daughter involved in the cause (the former as a walker and now crew - the latter as part of the Youth Crew).

That group of friends has now grown into Team Wench, Inc., a recognized 501(c)(3) organization who has, through the hard work of its members and supporters, donated over $180K for various charities ($70K of which has gone to fight breast cancer).

Sadly, I have also lost dear friends and watched others fight unlikely odds. I have been there as the words "density change" turned a friend's life inside out and upside down. I have been there and I will continue to be there until we have a cure.

My Fundraising Link contains a lot more information for anyone who's interested.
